Information and Resources for Coaches
At Margaret River Hockey Club, our coaches are all volunteers. Many are parents of players or junior and senior members who are keen to give back to the club by supporting the next generation of hockey players. Like many grassroots sporting clubs, we rely on the passion and commitment of our volunteers, and we recognise the vital role coaches play in the ongoing success of our club.
While hockey experience is valuable, it is certainly not a requirement to become a great coach. Enthusiasm, encouragement, and a willingness to support young players are just as important.
The club provides guidance and support for all volunteer coaches. Our Head of Coaching, Wally Zalewski, is available to mentor new coaches, and we encourage volunteers to continue developing their skills through training opportunities. We follow the structured coach development pathways provided by Hockey WA and Hockey Australia, helping coaches build confidence and knowledge at every level.
Any upcoming coaching courses, workshops, or training opportunities will be listed below and on our Club Events Calendar.

We want to ensure our coaches are skilled up in the appropriate drills and principles required for the age group they are coaching. Coaches are encouraged to attend any courses that are organised through the club.
Hockey Australia In partnership with the Australian Sports Commission and the state bodies, have improved the training materials and developed a new accreditation program - Hockey ED.
