Information and Resources for Coaches

  • Our coaches at Margaret River Hockey Club are all volunteers and many are parents of players or junior players keen to give back to the club by supporting the younger players. This is the same across the grassroots sporting club community. We know that our volunteer coaches play a major part for the on-going success of our club.

Whilst coaches have some hockey experience, it is NOT required to be a good coach. The club offers support and guidance for all volunteer coaches. Our Head of Coaching - Stuart Wishart, is available to support new coaches and the club provides coaching courses and training and follows a (Hockey WA / Hockey Australia) structured training program. If we are running courses, they will be listed below on our club events calendar.

  • We want to ensure our coaches are skilled up in the appropriate drills and principles required for the age group they are coaching. Coaches are encouraged to attend any courses that are organised through the club.

Hockey Australia In partnership with the Australian Sports Commission and the state bodies, have improved the training materials and developed a new accreditation program - Hockey ED. The new framework aims to improved the participant experience, by providing coaches and officials with the knowledge on creating safe, fun and inclusive environments.

Our goal is for our coaches to have the following Hockey Australia accredited qualifications as a minimum.
